About Leah

I’m a mother, and my children are growing up walking the same streets and attending the same schools their great-grandparents once did. That kind of generational connection to place is rare—and it’s part of what fuels my commitment to making this a city where every family can thrive, not just those who can afford to.
Professionally, I have a background in public health and policy. I’ve spent my career working to make systems more fair, transparent, and centered on people. I’m an epidemiologist with experience in research, evaluation, and Medicaid transformation. My public health journey began in the Peace Corps, and I hold a Master’s in Public Health.
Locally, I serve on the Whatcom County Public Health Advisory Board, where I helped finalize and bring forward the resolution declaring racism a public health crisis, and the Whatcom Dispute Resolution Center Board. I also served on the City of Bellingham’s Community Development Advisory Board, advocating for grant funding to support childcare providers and more substantial equity commitments from our community grantmaking partners.
I’m a lifelong Democrat, shaped by a deep belief in collective action, equity, and government that works for the people. I missed the wave of Obama-era campaign energy while serving in the Peace Corps—but last year, I got to feel some of that hopey changey spirit again as a Delegate representing the 2nd Congressional District at the 2024 Democratic National Convention. I currently serve as the State Committee Member for the 42nd Legislative District, where I work to strengthen our party’s values at the local level. I also authored and successfully passed a resolution to establish an Ombuds Office for Whatcom County—because I believe in building transparent, accountable, and responsive systems to the people they serve.
I’m running for City Council because I believe we can—and must—do more to create equitable opportunities and shared prosperity in Bellingham.
This is a people-powered campaign. I’d be honored to have your support—whether that’s donating, volunteering, or simply helping spread the word.
